After my first crit I wanted to go back into the direction of what actual spaghetti looks like. I tried to crop straight into the image, allowing little space for the background. My top image was considered my current most successful however it came from my imagination. Therefore I tried to incorporate how spaghetti in my head looks with spaghetti in real life. As you can see from the imagery below I attempted my first real go at creating a real life image, replicating an image without using live trace. From this I have a much greater understanding of how to use the pen tool however I may have lost my original elements. I want to meet somewhere in the middle and use more straight lines and just hint at one or two curves. I forced spaghetti to behave in a way that is visually appealing instead of allowing it to fall naturally.
When looking back at my imagery I have found a photograph that illustrates exactly what I am aiming for. From here I want to start drawing this image in a way similar to my initial approach. I want to continue to use the black and white high contrast effect but also want to consider how I can add depth to my image but using a percentage of black within some areas. I then need to work on highlights, how the spaghetti will lift off the page instead of appearing flat. Further to this I need to explore the way in which I will illustrate the sauce.
